She could be like coming thru on a tour bus and halted by a snow storm and gets bored so throws a concert in Isabella Dicken, right, shaaaa could happen.

Juicey Goodness

Im a sucker for anything local, so when I recieved a bottle of the Columbia Vineyards Merlot Private Reserve as a gift, I was open minded, even tho the labelling made it look like a home brew jobbie. Anyway, last night the bottle was accidentley chilled a bit too long in my truck. When I opened it and served it later, it was fairly chilled. BY GEORGE! It was fannnnntastic!! Juicy, Fruity, Low Acidity High Alchohol, grape juice! Cherries and Black Fruits and Jams and Spice! Just fucking lovely. Pick up a bottle and through in the fridge till ya ready to have. (Red Wine chilled is actrually a very accurate way to enjoy by professional standard)

Ha HA

i dont know why exactly, but this pic just KILLED ME! hahaahhahahahaha

hahahahaha

Uggg.

The Ant-HST referendum will cost the province 30.1 million dollars. If is passes and continues, what a fucking waste of money, if it wins and we lose the HST back to PST, we look like fucking idiots to competing provinces of Alberta and Ontario, wont they be smiling all the way to bank while we lose business and opportunity to them.

fuuuuuuuck what a messsss. I hope it stays to be honest, Im already over it. But wow, thanks mostly-ill-informed petition signers, thanks for the referendum!  I bet not even HALF of the people that signed the petition go out and actrually vote on this thing. BET YOU!

Light em up.

Harvesting Fernie

new Fernie blog alert!
http://harvestingfernie.blogspot.com/

busy lady

Sorry for slacking on the posts, been crazy busy I swear! Im running around getting Freyja stocked, locked and ready to roll for the Christmas and ski season and getting the Gold Gala up and running. Ive been working on the new Fernie Music Festival committee, which Im stoked about. Plus, Im driving to Calgary once a week to complete my level one in the International Sommelier Guild's Sommelier program. Then I took a business financial managment course put on by FABDA, which was over-the-top  fabulous! I went to a naturopath doctor and learned all kinds of new things about me, Ive joined Sue Bawden meditation classes and life coach program and on top of all the new exciting things happening in my life Ive some serious highs and lows with my personal life. Basically, Im busy.

Life is crazy and life goes by fast. Gotta stop and smell the...fresh snow and keep yourself in the moment and not in the past or worried about hte future. Carpe Diem my people! And for some reason the saying "its always darkest before the dawn" keeps popping in my head this week, maybe one of you out there had to read that today... Peace

This SNOW IS FUCKI|NG CRAZY!

Give it a good review and get back to me

So I see the new Drinking and Driving laws are taking some major heat from the restuarant industry, Nice to see that they are mulling over having a review.  I think that they should be looking in to this. Money is being lost people! And at the end of the day this new alcohol limit is not going to stop the drunk drivers, people who choose to drink and drive are still gonna do it.. AND THEY ARE! What they need to do is develop is a fresh idea to tackle repeat offenders and the actual bad guys that are ruining it for the good people of this province.

I do feel its rediculous and I really do feel sorry for the restos and bars who have MANY law abiding customers that are spending less money. And I feel sorry for ME! I want to order a nice bottle of wine at the restaurant with dinner and make good choices, but now Im scared, and Im confused what to do so instead Im ordering house wine and not finishing it. FUCK.

Whats next? Prohibition, oh cuz that really worked out. If this shit keeps up Im moving to Europe, or at least to a place that gets it, and gets me!

On top of these new rules and the new Fun Police ByLaw that the City of Fernie is trying to pass, Im feeling dejected, Im feeling like Im going to hell, I feel like Im living in the 50s and my greaser boyfriend is making my dad sweat, I feel like insecure chrurch ladies everywhere are rejoicing, all of this makes me feel like rebelling EVEN MORE!! ANARCHY!!

Cool

46 Days

Alright Im sure the real  hippees in town are gonna give me some heat for this but, Im just so full of joy, I have to share. I go to Cranbrook to visit my dentist, had a little cleaning, had no cavities! I was feeling good, saucy if you will. So I decided to treat myself to a lil soy latte from Starbucks.
I walk in and all the Christmas presents and decos are out. Im like "YAAAAAY".
Why? Because Im sick in the head. hahahahaha
I love Christmas retail. I love it!!!!
All the little gift packs, all the shiny things, the Christmas to-go cups! AAhh my heart was racing! What can I buy and for whom? Can I wrap them? Christmas Christmas, shopping shopping shopping!!!! YAAAAAAY!
I cant help it, I love it. I love the hustle and bustle and snacks and treats and booze and presents and buzz and smiles and crazyness and food and wine and liqueurs!!!
Family stuff is okay I guess, but really Ijust  like the retail and the food parts.
No I didnt shop, I just got my latte and smiled, The As Good As Gold Gala is 25 days away and Christmas is 46 days away! Bring on the Baileys, Bring on the Ovaltine Mint Sticks, bring on the snow, bring on the love people!!

Weekly Rant

Open Letter All To Freegans:

You know what? Everyone really IS laughing at you. Go ahead there and sift through garbage and eat garbage and tell me you've "figured" it out, ohhh ya you are sooo clever beating the "man" by eating bagels from a dumpster and bragging you live on a dime a day, ooooooooo. You know what else? Fuck you. If you want to live in a society of no money then get the fuck off my sidewalks and roads and dont you dare enter my hospital. Im breakin my back working in this society paying taxes and generating something in my local and global ecomony and you just think you can come in and freeload with your ignorant comments, distorted views and stinky trash ass. Fuck you. Look the fuck around, take a good damn look at your beautiful country and the AMAZING opportunities you have in Canada, and by geez, how the fuck do you think all that comes together???? The facilities to educate yourself, heal yourself, have a baby safely, enjoy a movie, have a music festival, etc etc.... You dont think any of that costs anything? And those people dont deserve compensation so they can be apart of society and pay taxes for all the things we in turn use adn need, and have money for their families? fuck you. If you wanna live in the dump, go ahead, but you better fucking stay there. Get a clue.

This really entertained me.

I knew I still had a chance!

Aside from the fact that I cannot WAIT to get my hands on the new Keith Richards autobiography, he just spilled that the Stones are touring next year. HAHA wow. Woooow. Whatever! Gereatrics at its best and I will pay!

Beauty Basics

Okay, I feel compelled to post this. Time after time I get asked and asked by ladies in the community on how to apply make up. I know! Its so silly, but ya, it is confusing, but this should be easy, but its not!  Cuz no one really shows you these things. Even though its your gaddamn face to the world! I swear, honestly some of this should be basic life skills that they should teach in high school. Seriously, they really dont teach you how to eat properly in high school, may as well teach the ladies how to put on a face...for the so many reasons a lady should know this stuff !

Im not trying to give a lecture on makeup, Im just saying, regardless of how you think society should be, the fact is that we live in a society where you want to know how to put your best face forward at times, makeup can and will make you feel more confident and sexy, its just the way it is so lets all learn the basics people!

These videos from The globe are fantastic, you can always you tube some insturctions on something you arnt sure of. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/style/beauty-basics/

Something to do while sipping coffee and.....

But in order for this to happen, the community is invited to the Arts Station for some lantern making workshops so we can pull this shit together. Ol Oz isnt making all these lanterns himself! The Lantern Fest is on Nov 20th!

Amazing. Simply Life Changing.

So ya, I gotta be honest I was suuuuper skeptical of this kinda thing before, saying you are going to a "Life Coach" to me before, felt like I had somewhat failed at life or couldnt get my shit together. But I sucked up that feeling, changed my mindset about it to, "sometimes you need a tune up and a shake up and focused" and thats what a life coach did for me. That was a couple years ago, my life has dramatically changed for the good. So Im happy to help promote Sue Bawden at Evolve Ink. Shes got some great new workshops coming up....Heres her memo....

Hi everyone
I am pleased to be offering a variety of interesting workshops for November and early December. Below you will see an offering of workshops ranging from Meditation to general Self Awareness/Health & Wellness. Some are only a few hours, others are a series in the afternoons or evenings over the course of several weeks. Some are complimentary while others have a fee but are eligible for the “Evolve” 2 for 1 Community Coupon offer.
In 2010 I have had the good fortune to train at the Chopra Center (Dr. Deepak Chopra) in California several times and I am delighted to share with you their fascinating teachings particularly in the field of meditation. The many benefits of meditation have been understood by practitioners for thousands of years. Science is catching up to prove its merits to the masses and can now explain how it changes brain chemistry along with body physiology. This is why it is now being used in the field of medicine to support heart patients, pain management, people suffering from anxiety, insomnia, feelings of depression and STRESS to name a few.
I can personally attest that meditation is hands down the most powerful daily habit I have ever incorporated into my life affecting my mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, professional and financial wellbeing.
New York Times best selling author and heralded global pioneer of Mind-Body Wellness Deepak Chopra declares,
“if there is one thing you do to increase your overall health and wellbeing-LEARN & PRACTICE MEDITATION!”
This is the perfect time of the year to settle into the comforts of indoors and to make time to reflect and recharge your battery by taking a workshop before the excitement of Christmas, ski season and the New Year is upon us.

These months also represent 2010 coming to a close along with new beginnings for 2011 emerging. With that timing we naturally often reflect upon how the year has gone so quickly, what did we do, what didn’t we do, what do we want the new year to bring and to create for ourselves? Improved health, peace of mind with finances, greater connections with others, less stress-more fun, life balance, new work opportunities along with many other goals are often top of the list.

But what will make these goals and efforts more successful than in the past? How can we stop the cycle of circling around the same unmet wants & concerns over and over? How can you end 2010 on a high note and set yourself up for an amazing 2011?

Consider you must try something different to have different results. Give yourself permission to try something new.

I have decided to donate the money to the "As Good As Gold" Salvation Army Gala this year. The Schoolyard Business Exellence Awards

K, couple things on my mind this week. Lots going on in the fall eh? Its like town slows down but life picks up, people just out doing shit and working on future shit. Im loving it, all good things.

So, okay, the Fernie Chamber puts on a Business Awards Gala every year. In order to be a finalist for an award, people in the community have to put forward your name and why they think  you deserve the award. Some of the awards are like "Best Customer Service" "Business of the Year" "Entreprenuer of the Year", things like that.

So when I found out for the 3rd year in a row I was nominated for Entreprenuer of the year, I was really...heartwarmed, because its not the Chamber putting these names together its people in the community that took the time to write my name down and that ts really flattering. No, Ive never won, haha, but being a good sport Im still pleased someone notcied my hard work and Im definantly gonna drink to that, drink some Macallan 18 year in fact.
So that being said, I looked at all the nominess this year for all the different business awards and I thought, wow, yes all these people and business' are outstanding and all very deserving. But they there were some glaringly obvious names missing.

I just want to point out that, all the people nominated are very deserving but Schoolyard must hand out some addtional imporant awards.

Schoolyard Musings Business Excellence Awards for Outstanding Business Work in Fernie.

1. Most Passionate -Tanya Malcolm from Womb to Grow. Tanya has dedication, passion, sass and the smarts to shine in business. Her business has taken the initative to include the community and invite them into her passion by hosting events like the "Red Tent Event" and currently, the theatre production "Birth". Tanya herself is a vibrant community member participating as a volunteer and arts supporter. Cheers to Tanya and her business, you are a winner to me girl!

2. Most Good-Looking Staff Appricated - Charlie and Staff at Bulldogs North. Damn is it hard to run a bar year round in Fernie, keeping the locals and the vistiors excited about music and food. And these guys have been at it for awhile now. Im stoked they took a huge risk getting into a business like this in a town like this and having the drive to make it work. All big winners to me and much thanks for being open, thank you for bringing music to Fernie, thank you for supporting local music and thank you for burgar and beer night. Thank for dealing with all the shit that happens at a metal show, but you brought it in cuz it made the people happy.

3. Most Coolest -Keiran Summers at Give'r Shirt Works. Great product, Great staff, Great service, Great community supporter, sponsoring and giving shit away all the time in this town for a small business. Also, totally making a sick balls-to-the-wall move by expanding into a big space in the old Fields building. Thats takes balls dude, good on ya and cheers!!

4. Most Best At Stuff- Brett at Mugshots. Huge community supporter with his donations, always working, employing lots of peeps and always super nice, and the ruebans and clubs are really good and they serve Oso Negro. Boom. He's also an AMAZING caterer. Like the time this summer he had to cook for a wedding of 90. Both stoves at Elk View broke and he ended up cooking the 90 meals on a camp stove and noooo one noticed the difference, it was fantasic, I know cuz I was there.

5. Most Awesome - Boardstiff. Seriously are these guys like open 24/7? I like that Geof has set a standard for downtown retail hours. Maybe we arnt all on board yet cuz we are lazy/or too cheap, but they are the example to follow. I like that Boardstiff is a community supporter. I like that Geof made that Turkey Tent Sale happen this fall. I like that they are in the middle of downtown and they always look like somethings going on. Overall, Fernie should feel happy that Boardstiff is commited to this town, even tho lots of y'all are heading over the boarder to get your winter shit.

6. Most Ballsy - Picnic Restaurant. Basically just a huge thanks for taking a shit ass building in our downtown and socking thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars into making it one fucking good looking street corner and bragging place. Again, another ballsy risk and it makes our town better, thanks.

7. Most Killing it - Becka and Jesse at Poison Apple Tattoo. This amazing woman barely looks up these days cuz shes either tattooing or drawing. She created a fucking monster with her shop and its killlllling it. Why? Cuz shes a brilliant artist and a hard ass. I love her and Im so happy Fernie has a spot like this. Shes booked till like next March so thats why shes expanding and only bringing in equally sick qualified artists. Poison Apple just showcased at the Calgary Tattoo Convention and garnered some serious industry buzz. she also was profiled in "Inked" magazine - ya thats kinda a big deal.

8. Most Bragging Rights - The Staff at Yamagoya and Cam. Lets be honest, we all brag about your overall quality to all our friends and family that live outta town. When people visit Fernie we showcase how rad our town is with a night at Yamagoya. You guys are the reason most people stay in Fernie. You gave us culture, you gave us a place to eat weekly and totally feel amazing about it, you gave us a place to be seen on a first date. Its the Truth! Also wicked community supporters. Lift those Alpine Martinis high and ching ching! Chineechawa Bitches!!

Honorable Mentions in no particular order:
1. The dude that reno'd and added the acarde to the Vogue
2. Cincott
3. Lillis and Claude

Anyone with the drive and passion to do business in Fernie is top shelf in my books. Big Winners and Hugs all around.

See yas this Thursday at the "real" awards!

You should watch this

k, this guy is kind of annoying, but fuck I really like his no bulshit, slap-in-the-face approach to telling it like it is, watch it. He talks about why you should do what you love.
Hes a successful business entrepenuer.Bestselling author and entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk began his career in his family's business, Shopper’s Discount Liquors. He soon rebranded the store as Wine Library, launching a retail website and boosting its revenue from $4 million to $60 million.

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Monopoly is back at McDonalds, and I just won a Barqs Root Beer , BOOM!

Thanks, thanks and thanks.

Just wanna make a point to say, "Whoooa! Last Saturday downtown Fernie was Crazy!"

Crazy busy with locals and tourists. What an excellent weekend for Fernie. Im sure there were numerous factors that contributed to it. One being that a couple weddings were happeing on 10/10/10 so wedding attendees had all Saturday to browse the shops, Two, long weekend.
But also Boardstiff got the ball rolling for a Turkey Tent Sale, in which Freyja, Commit, Bunches and Guides Hut jumped in and all put spots on EK radio. Thanks to Geof for getting it going, not like anyone else was doing anything to promote shopping in Fernie or any kind of economic stimulus, cough cough.
Thanks Geof! and Thanks to all merchants who were out cash to promote what turned out to be a nice weekend for everyone. And thank your Fernie for shopping local, its an investment in your town and the money all stays here in one way or anyother.
-jus saying.

Happy Birthday Meesh

Lovely Graff Art

New Beer

Fall is my favorite time of year for food. The aromatic spices of nutmeg and cinnamon, the baking squash and pumpkin pies, the pumpkin spice lattes, ahhh I love it! My fav!
So naturally I had to try the new Fernie Pumpkin Head Beer. And for a dark beer which isnt exactly my thing, it was not too bad, not too shabby at all. I liked my one pint, tis the season!
You gotta at least give'r a try.

The BEST

Sending flowers is my favorite! Always use Teleflora for out of town deliveries, I dont wanna talk about it but I was just ripped off by a mom and pop no-speaka-mucha-english place in Calgary, so ya, always use Teleflora unless its in town here which I would recommend The Green Petal.

YAY! Happy Birthday Jenn! These flowers are pretty, but not as pretty as you....ooooohhh!

Oh and speaking of....Thanksgiving centrepieces from Green Petal for dinner this weekend would be lovely, but you gotta call and put an order in asap.

LOOK ITS JESUS!

So last night, Im sitting at home and I just get this overwhleming craving for chocolate milk, happens from time to time, so I go to 7/11 for a run and while Im there I think, shit I havent had a good chip in a looooong time, like at least 2 weeks! So I go for the 'ol fav Ruffles Sour Cream and Onion. Im at home watching Hellcats, yes my life is sooo exciting aint it! Then I pull out this chip, and by golly, its JESUS!
Jesus Christ appeared to me in a Ruffles chip! Here is the proof. I've been informed by some friends that this looks like the Jesus Statue in Rio de Janeiro. So I think im being called to Brazil. Something in Brazil is calling me, maybe its Jesus, maybe its the surf, maybe its the techno music, whatever!

Im totally putting this on ebay, I hope I get at least $10, $5000 would be sweet too.
