Man, the soup at the Bakeshop today is AMAZING. Veggie Chorizo!! The Germans know what they are doing! They know a good soup man, and theres like no line ups there ever!
Also, they make good pizza by the slice. Nothing beats a piece of pizza by the slice when you are all hangry.
Holla Carmen!! Thanks!

Glorious Discovery
Okay so I feel dumb, I just learned this weekend what Pollstar.com is. ITS BLOWING MY MIND to say the least. Its like an industry site for bands and venues of EVERYWHERE to post whats happening. Could be gigs at Hollywood Bowl and venues in a dirty basment in Oliver BC, whatever. Search any city, any band, any venue and your music thirst shall be quenched.

Fernival Details leaked...
Remember Fernival at the ski hill last year? That festivial they had where they closed the hill, then re-opened it for the "Spirit of the West" concert to happen, and it was also called SN-O-BAMA. Well its back and this year's headliner is Ashley MacIssac. Performing at the Olympics seems to be paying off for the guy, hes booked a gig here in Fernie! Stay Tuned for deets, I havnet seen a press release yet...
crap.
So, yes someone died in Fernie on the weekend. Its uncredibley tragic and sad. A 21 year old man from Edmonton fell off the roof of the Northern and died. The incident has in no way anything to do with the bar Bulldogs. Rumor has it the guy was brought up there and was trying to gap the buildings, like he was trying to jump from one roof to another. However in a Vancouver paper today, "foul-play" is suspected. Crap.
This is very unfortunate and sad and my heart goes out the the family. Its just soooooo sad because its one of those deaths that could have been prevented.
That being said, this incident alarmed our community. From the moment I was up on Sunday morning, my phone was busy with people trying to figure out if it was a local that died. This panic was not devulged from a dark need to gossip, it was a knee-jerk reaction to account for all of our community members. Best friend or aquactince neighbour, or friend-of-a-friend, we needed to know what happened. It was this community protection vibe that circulated. We are all saddened by this incident, it hit us all in the gut. But what was remarkable to me was that we all jumped to make sure it wasnt "one of our own". Its kinda neat and comforting to me that I live in this kind of town, where we really look out for eachother. And ya, Im going to go ahead and say it - that we all breathed a sigh of relief in a small way that it wasnt a local. Its true, it doesnt lessen what happened. I just really noticed how we are all very protective of our people here in Fernie.
So, now aside from this sad unfortunate death, my protectional instinct for this town is alarmed again with Mondays Vancouver paper - its not exactly the headlines Fernie wants to be making. New media loves a good nasty story - trust me I worked in a major city newsroom for 5 years - and aside from all the amazing things happening in and coming out of Fernie this week (like the Fernie Team killing the Freeski world right now, our community spirit for the opening of Hot Tub TM, the fact we still have a base of snow, the Fernival Festival coming up, the Reel Film Fest this weekend) the news is going to focus soley on this tragedy - especially if they are suspecting foul play. ARGH. Im not saying this death isnt worthy of news, its that its a bad mark on our town right now, sucks, just sucks.

Loonie closed at 99 cents to the US dollar yesterday.
The USA is tanking!!! Its getting ugly down there.
Even tho the dollar is on par, remember that shopping local will sustain Fernie. You dont spend money here, your wicked little town will dry up. Its your choice, just remember there is always consquences. Target may seem tempting but helllllooooooooo dont sell your soul for cheap ass shit.

But Why?
Why do we celebrate and drink our faces off? ohh for God...technically:
Wikipedia St Patrick...
Little is known of Patrick's early life, though we know he was born in Roman Britain in the fifth century, into a wealthy Romano-British family. His father was a deacon in the Church, like his father before him. At the age of sixteen he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken captive to Ireland as a slave.[1] It is believed he was held somewhere on the west coast of Ireland, possibly Mayo, but the exact location is unknown. According to his Confession, he was told by God in a dream to flee from captivity to the coast, where he would board a ship and return to Britain. Upon returning, he quickly joined the Church in Auxerre in Gaul and studied to be a priest.
In 432, he again says that he was called back to Ireland, though as a bishop, to save the Irish, and indeed he was successful at this, focusing on converting royalty and aristocracy as well as the poor. Irish folklore tells that one of his teaching methods included using the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit) to the Irish people. After nearly thirty years of teaching and spreading God's word he died on 17 March, 461 AD, and was buried at Downpatrick, so tradition says. Although there were other more successful missions to Ireland from Rome, Patrick endured as the principal champion of Irish Christianity and is held in esteem in the Irish Church.
If you want to celebrate in Fernie, you have lots of stellar options.
1. Shred Kelly Shit Show at Bulldogs
2. The Runs at the Pub.
3. The Central, I dont know whats happening there to be honest.
I now know
Urban Dictionary - Smokeshow - 5 definitions - a term used to describe an extremely hot girl.
Recognniiiiize bitches.
Really pumped for The Runaways movie this weekend. Its a good little rock history lesson for y'all. Its more of a biopic of Cherie Currie tho, because other then Joan Jett, all other Runaways didnt want anything to do with the pic and had there lawyers make sure of it. So dont expect to see anything of Lita Ford, kinda a bummer.
Anyway, just wanted to take some time to recognize who I think is the most underated guitarist in rock today, Allison from The Donnas. If anyone really knows me, you know The Donnas have been my fav band for the last 12 years or so. A modern day Runaways they are, they were on tour doing covers of Motely and Judas Priest when they were 16, also writing all their own songs like Skintight and 40 Boys in 40 nights. The ARE rock and roll, and since I have been following them they have always kept it real. They are my modern day rock hereos. Thanks to Joan and Cherie paving the way. Here are my fav Donnas songs and "Dont wait up for me" is there new single.

Good News
From the Frisky.com....
For a wino wine lover like me, I just received the best news I could possibly hear. A new, long-term study says that women who drink red wine in moderation stay thinner into middle age. Woo hoo! So I finally have a legit reason to pop the cork on a daily basis. Of the 20,000 women that participated in this study, the red wine drinkers consistently put on less weight than the women who drank white wine, beer, liquor, or no alcohol at all. Why? The theory is that the body processes calories from alcohol differently from calories from food. The livers of regular red wine drinkers develop a separate method of breaking down alcohol, where surplus energy is turned into heat rather than fat. So those calories from your glass of Pinot Noir will get burned off while the calories from your slice of pizza will go directly to your butt. If you weren’t already excited to go out and buy a bottle of liquid dinner, studies also show that red wine can prevent blood clots and heart disease and extend your life expectancy. Cheers to that!
Just a Warning...
It’s been a slippery slope on my new ADHD behavior. Only a mere 3 months ago things were so different for me. I could sit down, watch television or go to dinner and have a complete evening …without looking at my cell phone. Now, what started out as an innocent upgrade to manage my small business more effectively, it has now fully become an addiction to social networking/media and all the jewels of a Blackberry. No longer can I sit though a segment of my favorite television shows without checking something on my phone. I text my best friend throughout the day as if we have an open telephone line that never shuts off. We text each other everything, not because we think the other cares or what we are saying is important or interesting, we just are addicted. Straight up addicted. I have also grown friendships out of my texting. Some people on my blackberry messenger I used to only share a small smile at on the street, but now we “chat” daily about anything and nothing. We have become better friends.
At first when I noticed how bad my addiction was, I was alarmed. I thought I should maybe curb it, set some rules and boundaries with it. But, truthfully I don’t care, I love it, maybe it’s a phase and Ill grow out of it. Who knows, but I am also aware that I am 29, and I don’t want to get left behind in technology either. I think it’s important to stay on top of what’s happening in the world and around me. Gotta go with the flow, especially if you are running a business these days.
But this is only a warning, perhaps you do not care to stay on top of technology or the worldly happenings, I respect that, I get that. But I’m just saying back in the 90s people were all wierded out and skeptical of the internet, and now that has fully intergraded into our lives in one way or another. So who is to say how social networking will evolve. Blogs have already changed how we view and get our news sources. It’s changed my advertising for my business. A simple Facebook upload of pictures or a “tweet” reaches my market and I see results immediately. I don’t know if social networking is a good thing for human beings, but its happened, its here, I don’t see the point in really fighting it. But there are some simple rules I should be outlined
1. Never interpret a certain “tone” in texts. For example, a friend responds to a dinner invite with “no Im busy”. Don’t snap back assuming she was being ungrateful, she may have been on her way to the hospital with a boyfriend who just broke his leg, and when she reveals that you are gonna feel dumb.
2. If you are out for dinner or drinks with real live people in your company…crazy I know…leave your phone in your pocket on vibrate, don’t check it unless the opportunity arises that won’t make the other people feel less important. Check it after or in the bathroom. I struggle with this rule myself.
3. Don’t use texting to do important things like, break up with a person or asking someone to be your bridesmaid, or thank them for letting you stay at there house. Use your manners on this one. Don’t text your boss either, voicemails!!
4. You don’t have to update your status every 2 minutes, or if you update about dumb or negative shit as well people will probably “hide” your or “unfollow” you.
I guess Im just saying that social networking is fucking crazy, be careful.

Cleaned the yard.
Oh poor poor Griz Days, not only has all the spirit left the days, the drags are gone due to no snow and there is just no snow period. WTF!?
Well, truthfully Im not gonna complain anymore, if spring is here and I just cleaned up a winter's worth of dog crap in my yard yesterday, then frig, Im having mojitos on my patio and lawn this weekend.
Rumors are afloat that Hot Dog Day will be early this year because of the lack of effort from the Griz.
If it started snowing now, honestly Id be bummed, this spring tease would just be cruel.
The City needs to kick up the street cleaning into overtime and get these kids back out on thier skateboards. If the snow shops cant sell goggles right now (Edge of the World has EVERYTHING in the store 40% off right now) then at least get them selling wheels and trucks and decks.
Ahhh its Friday!!

Questions that need Answers
New Wines for Spring
The BC Liqour Store's website always entertains me.
Here they list some new wines for spring. Neat! Spring is totally here! Get out the flip flops and hose off the BBQ, you might still be wearing a hoodie, but the sun feels so good. If you are basking outside, keep your palms up to the sun, you absorb more vitamin D that way becuase there is no pigment on your palms.

People are already talking, and the rumors are afloat, major changes to Sham this year like: Caged Stages - you will have to show a wristband to get in to every stage, they are majorly cracking down on people sneaking in. And fuck, Im glad about it. Lazy assholes, pay for the damn festival, its worth it ya fucking deadbeat strain on society and the economy. These people work damn hard all year, why do you feel so intitled? Fuck you. Also, no more camping out of your car, like Soundwave, you now must park and haul all your shit in and out. Ugh.
Right now as I type this there are only 1373 tickets left at the $195 price.
