Bingo at Bulldogs is fun. Its like the one night a week we all creep out with major B.O. and gum boots and get nuts. ahahahha really, thats cool. And who doesnt wanna win shit from the Bargain Store? And Kyle plays Roxette really loud! Total Score of a night. Last night Winnipeg djs Hunnicut and Coop randomly stopped by and totally threw down a sizeable "Reading Break" dance party. Weird that the hardest partying dancers wern't actrually on "Reading Break", they were just local broads. Bingo happens every Tueday night around 9pm at the Northern.

My Love

You know, sometimes I think everyone knows about something because its so awesome, but then I find someone who tells me they havent. What Im trying to say is that one of my most favorite indulgences in life is coffee and more specifically...OSO NEGRO COFFEE FROM NELSON BC. Why? BECAUSE IT IS AMAZING...when brewed properly, or right from the actual cafe in Nelson.

Oso Negro used to be in a tiny converted house coffeeshop up the hill from Nelson's main street, a couple years back they took over this mazing ladies house and converted the whole property into the best coffee shop in the world. Seriously, the best. If you havent been there, you need to add it to your bucket list. Im totally serious.

You can buy it at The Cottonwood Tree here in Fernie or order it online from Oso's site, they get fresh bags delivered weekly.

If I may recommend...
For a cone drip coffee machine:
Buy a bag of the Mudshark(my fav) or Prince of Darkness, grind it in a grinder for a couple minutes, shaking the grinder, really really getting those grinds into dust. Then for every mug of water put a heaping tablespoon of grinds in the filter. Fill with purified water. Hit the start/on button.
For a Bodum - Which is the best and most proper way to brew:
Grind the beans so they are coarse, not dust. Heapin tablespoon for each mug. Purified water, and steep for a good 6 - 8 minutes. Absorb that goodness!
If you have a flat bottom filter coffee maker, then you are not a serious coffee make to me and you are on your own.

Havin A Time!

Man Im so amped. Olympics are fucking RAD. I knew it would be. Jeez we are throwing a party for the world and all the nay-sayers are jumping their ship and launching on this support bandwagon. (Fair enough the protesters are making asses of themselves). I mean seriously though, random breaking out into song in Robson square!! Fucking Rights!!! I wish I was there!!!!

On a serious note tho, I really expected more cowbell.

I have been watching CBC and Global newscasts as well as the coverage on CTV. And Im not shocked that ANY lil nugget of potential negativity is jumped on by these guys. They are like vultures, just sitting and waiting for one tiny morsel of blood. Even when they report good news you can hear the doubt in there voice. Give it a rest Ian Hanomansing. Chillll. We are having a party, Canadians are stoked, the rest of the world is watching or HERE. CBC and Global kinda remind me of the OurFernie message boards. ahhahahahahahaahhah

If you are stuck at work like me during the day, you can always stream the live coverage from ctv.ca

K, Go Canada!!!

Useless

Dear Olympic Protesters

I just cant take you seriously. When you wake up in the morning and decide that wearing blue sweatpants is the choice look for going out to make a radical political statement, I just cant take you seriously. When the national media interviews you and you use language like "Olympics are crappy", ha ha ha, I just cant you seriously. Your protesting is useless. You look like terrorists, is that the message you want to spread? Arent you all supposed to be sitting a basement suite somewhere smoking a bowl waiting for tree planting season to begin anyway? Im so confused and disgusted at you. And when you claim police brutality, give me a fucking break, what did you expect? Oh please please please dont make me defend cops. Please!!

Chinese New Year

This Sunday the 14th is the Chinese New Year, 2010 is the year of the Tiger.
I went surfing for sum Chinese 2010 predictions. Basially everything I found said the year of the Tiger will be a bad shitty rollarcoaster year. Awesome. At least there will be beer.

The Year of The Tiger begins on February 14th 2010. Drama, intensity, change and travel will be the keywords for 2010. Unfortunately, world conflicts and disasters tend to feature during Tiger years also, so it won’t be a dull 12 months for anyone. The Year of the Tiger will bring far reaching changes for everyone. New inventions and incredible technological advances have a good chance of occurring. For all of the Chinese horoscope signs, this year is one to be active – seizing opportunities and making the most of our personal and very individual talents. Everything happens quickly and dramatically in a Tiger year – blink and you could miss an important chance of a lifetime!

I wish I was in Vancouver this month...

to all you party poopers, read this article, it sums up what I feel as well. Or this one.

Colbert Coming

Hhahaah I cant wait to see this...

Like many of the athletes vying for gold in Vancouver, Stephen Colbert's Olympic training has been eventful.

He has already auditioned for the U.S. bobsled, skating and curling teams. He has angered a sizable portion of Canada. And he has landed on the cover of Sports Illustrated's Olympic preview.

Now, he's preparing for the big event. While The Colbert Report is in repeats next week, the comedian will be in Vancouver for the first week of the Olympics. He'll be there recording a wealth of material for his show (to air beginning Feb. 22), attending events, conducting interviews and doing a kind of half-show from a stage set up outside the Olympic centre.

"We'll bring snow because I don't think Vancouver has any," he said in an interview, taking a swipe at the city's sometimes watery precipitation.

Just as he has inserted himself into big events such as the 2008 election (during which he was briefly and illegitimately a candidate) and the Iraq war (he did a week of shows from Baghdad in 2009), Colbert has made himself a key figure for the Vancouver Olympic Games, which start Friday.

When the U.S. speedskating team lost its primary sponsor last fall (the Dutch bank DSB went bankrupt), the Report stepped in with a novel idea. The show's ardent fans had previously raised sizable amounts of money for charity, and the show suggested that the "Colbert Nation" could sponsor the skaters.

Speaking of facinating magazine articles, love this opinion diddy from my MACLEANS Blackberry app.

Cool, Ive been bloggin for a year. This blog is like a year old. You guys been reading this crap for a year. Sometimes I dont think anyone is reading this, and then boom shit gets weird once in while with fans coming out of the woodwork... Ahhh lets toast!

Super Cool

Thanks for the laughs

Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan hit the stage at Bulldogs last Sunday. Ohhh the laughs. That night was just a license for everyone to get stoopid. Chef, you are cool and all but your show kinda sucked with all the starts and stops music wise, dude you need more flow. Whatevs it was fun I guess.

Oh and some people might be stoked to hear that Deekline is coming to Bulldogs in March. Thats an upper for this gaaaay Wednesday.

Upgrade Yourself

If anyone out there has a Shaw Internet Modem, then listen up!
Shaw has been busy up-grading a LOT of techy shit in the last couple months, they have been laying fiber optic cable, and thats kinda a big deal for Fernie. So....there is a new faster modem available. The new modem is designed to deliver improved performance and enhanced services, this means you'llhave access to the fasted internet speeds in town. Plus, if you're already a Shaw High-Speed Internet customer, upgrading your modem means you'll now get "Powerboost" and extra 5-20 second burst of download speed for FREE.

But! You gotta go exchange your current blue modem for the new fast one at the Shaw Office in the Annex, 691 9th Ave on these dates only:
Feb 4 and 5th 10am-6pm
Feb 6 9am-5pm.

Cool. This Fibre Optic cable also means Digital Phone is coming to Fernie soon. But who wants a landline these days anyway??

BOOKED!

Del The Funky Homosapien has been booked for Fernie at Bulldogs Sunday April 11th. This has been confirmed!!! This is not a tease!!!!!The Last day of the hill. OMFG!!!!!

Straight Talk on the "Quality of Life"

okay, so many of you reading of this wont know what Im even talking about, so let me give you the back story.

Recently, The City of Fernie hired a firm from the coast to conduct a "Quality of Life, Liveability + Sustainability" study. Yes another study. This study is to research through us locals why we like living in Fernie. To quote it:The City of Fernie along with Halcrow Consulting will present the Quality of Life Index and Liveability Reporting Initiative. A report that measures the vitality of our community and identifies significant trends in areas critical to our quality of life. This will be an important opportunity for community members and interested stakeholders to learn about and provide preliminary input on the proposed process for monitoring Fernie’s liveability.

The idea is that everyone in Fernie knows this is happening right now (ahhh nope) and contributes to this study. What do they do with the study after its done? Well who the fuck knows, but ideally it will help them plan where the town is going with keeping these quality of life things in mind. ahahahahahahhahahaahh ya right!! No Way Bullshit. This study is a waste of thousands of dollars.

Deep breaths.
I contributed my own personal sentiments to this study. My list included things like: I like that people are friendly, I love my friends, the nightclub scene is really good for a small town, you can walk everywhere, yada yada yada, but you know me, I just couldnt help myself, I JUST HAD to include my two cents cuz Im a shithead...
My SideNote:
I just want to note that I think having a quality of life here or really anywhere in the world requires money. This might not be the popular thing to mention, but I feel its the elephant in the room most of the time here in Fernie. Everyone in Fernie is unique, there are many different types of social sectors in Fernie - and I think they all need money for their quality of life. You want to mountain bike the trails and have weekends off to drink beer with friends? - You need money. You want to go camping and/hunting? - You need money. You want to garden all day in your hemp pants?- Well then you need money to make your steep morgage payment, so hopefully you have a husband with a good job bringing that in. You want your kids to ski race and see thier goals come to life?- Money. You want to have nice clothes and bar hop? - You need money. You want a Wildsight membership? - you need extra money. We want new fancy restaurants like "Picnic" to survive - we need more locals making reservations. You want to open a business, well you need money and people with money to support you. Money Money Money, its just the way it is. Your quality of life goes down when you lack money and jobs. We need more economic development here. We need professional jobs. When everyone has some money then we can all go have a good quality of life in what ever various reason we all want to stay here. It seems the never ending debate is the environment vs. development. Until the extreme environmentalists can wake up and understand that it IS possible to properly manage development/growth and the enviro then I cant see money really growing in Fernie, thrus a lack of quality of life.

To you can take this "study" and put it to something useful like papermache hats because not everyone is participating in this (I just randomly looked at Fernie.com, Ourfernie.com, the Free Press.ca and the City of Fernie's website and I cant find any real blatent info, and I just asked two random locals a 23 year old and a 29 year old and they never heard of it, the only thing I could find on it was a posting of the event online at OurFernie ahhhahahaha not even gonna go there, oh and I saw a poster with lots of writing on it posted on that goddamn eyesore the old movie store downtown) AND this is useless if we have no money in the valley to support everyones quality.

Hmpf.
