New Years Day

New Years Day is a Saturday, sooo couple shops will be opening up downtown Fernie for some local shopping and still rocking some sick Boxing Week sales. Boardstiff, Grow, Freyja...thats all I know so far, but send down the women and non-hockey-watchers and non-skiers.

Snappy!

CBC Radio 3

Smalltown is working the CBC, niicely done. Radio 3 wants to get more Canadian electronic music up on the ol digital airwaves. Neat. Click Here to Smalltown Podcast on Radio 3 This podcast is all Canadian artists. Perhaps a great mix for intermissions for tommorows Canada vs.Sweeden matchup. Go Canada!

Deelish!

Delish! McDonalds Blueberry and Maple Pie! Just Lovely! It was a heavenly delight for one dollar it cost! MMMMM
New Years Weight Resolutions can start on the 2nd.

Sluggish Concert Sales

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that many concert tickets will be slashed in prices this next year, due to a shiiity concert season. Some concerts are even scrapping dates and tours all together like The Eagles and Lillth Fair.
Sure, mainstream concerts have taken a hit, but what about festivals, Shambhalas 2011 first tier was sold out a long time ago in record time I heard, Sasquatch's tickets are selling already.
Another thing Ive noticed is the shift in mainstream music. And who more appropriate to demonstrate the shift then the Black Eyed Peas, there new no.1 single "Dirty Bit" sounds like a raver song from 2 years ago. Perhaps the new mainstream is the Shambhala'ers. Last year at Sham, I certainly noticed that the "clientele" had changed over a bit, "Calgary-university-chinook-centre-boppin-average-people-talking huge shit about how wasted they are". Do you know what I mean. Sham was soooo mainstream and trendy. It makes me want to retreat and backoff and go find something more grassroots. The evolution of concert attending to that particular audience is gone raver. No one actrually listens to the new Rhianna, they downloard the Chew Fu remix verisons.
So, if you are a festival Id say you are in for a great year, if your band is headling the Saddledome, Id be scared.
Ohhhhh speaking of Festivals, and a shitty economy. the Fernie Music Fest, WAPITI, will be in your backyard and sooo affordably priced! Oh awesome! And so grassroots! Dont fight the guy in the Hooters shirt for a porta-pottie, just step into your backyard and buy an overpriced beer here! Support local!
(my shameless WAPTIT promotion is only going to grow over the next year because I really believe in the concept and the party)

New Parenting Trend

Wow, I dont know what to say, I can only share my observations. Lately I have really noticed all the pre-teen to teenage girls out their treatin thier mommas like crap. There are teens and preteens snooting and snittin and snottin all about while their poor moms fuss and careress and spoil their ass's. The moms are begging to buy heaps of clothing and makeup while these spolied little bitches snap and turn their noses up and what to the moms do, they keep fawning and doting on them. Interesting. Teens 1 Moms 0.
I really cant comment. I see this all the time, I dont have kids so I just dont get why these moms dont snap their fingers and say " you aint getting shit with that attitude hunny!"
Is it because all these kids were planned and not accidents like my whole generation was hahahahahahha, seriously I think Im on to something here...

Whatever

I like how Mt Washington on Vancouver Island got a friggin 5 minute commerical during the primetime of the 6 o'clock news hour on CBC. Ya sure 3 metres in 3 days is sick, thing is, thats not totally abnormal for Mt Washington. Old news CBC. Oh and dont you hate that EVERY ski hill is mentioned in the ski report on CBC and Global BC EXCEPT Fernie. Fuck we are NOT in Alberta despite what the parking lots say.
Ive been to Mt washington on a pow week, you cant drive to your condo, gotta get the cat ride in, you cant see SHIT, you cannot remove goggles at ANY cost or your goggles will be perma fogged, the snow is soooo fucking heavy and wet, its not steep enough for that wet snow, theres no night life, pouring rain at the bottom uggg hahahaha I wasnt impressed, and yes Ima spoiled princess powder bunny.

I vote for the Alberta boarder to extend to Morrissey. Seriously, lets start a petition, I know you BC'ians looooooooove signing petitions!

Tonight! As IF!

WAPITI

Wapiti- thats a word you are going to be hearing a lot of in the new year. (Fernie's new Music Fest in Annex Park Aug 13-14 is called WAPITI)) anyway, I shall touch on that hype later, but for now Ill just mention that the Wapiti Ski Hil in Elkford is open, its free day this Jan 1st

Wapiti Ski Hill Breakdown:
7 ski runs over a 1,000 foot vertical drop include both beginner and expert runs.

Operated by the volunteer Wapiti Ski Club, including a fully trained volunteer ski patrol, a day lodge and concession, equipment rentals, and a ski school.

Soundtrack

Need some holiday cheer, or a soundtrack to your Christmas drinking binge?

Click Here to Download A Rockpile Christmas Album

Review:
Basically, this album is NOT what I was expecting, thing is tho, I fucking love it...and so does my mom. Major props to Alex for the mad producing skills to make this tolerable. This album is probabley the closest Fernie will ever get to Michael Buble. Bringing back the old school traditional music was just what the season needed. 5 draft beers outta 5.

Holy Grail of Pick Up Lines Revealed

From the Huffington Post;
Single men needing a little help in the romance department might want to try praising a woman on her lips, a new survey has found.
In a new poll that seems to have been lifted out of a Sex and the City episode, online dating site Badoo claims to have found what they call "the Holy Grail" of international dating. And the poll found that complimenting a woman on her lips was the world's best pick-up line, working astonishingly well on women from all of the surveyed backgrounds.
The site, which has 87 million registered users, reportedly analyzed the success rates of opening lines from nearly 200,000 online flirtations in 11 languages for the Compliment Success Index. Users were invited to use one of 12 different ice-breakers, each complimenting a woman on an aspect of her body or appearance. Success was determined by the woman's response and whether or not a subsequent conversation was launched.

Next time you're on a date with a Portuguese woman, compliment her on her ears. Though if your next love interest is German or Canadian, concentrate on her skin.

TREES

The Trees for sale at Overwaitea are INSANELY nice, oddly perfect, they smell glorious! Just sayin if you dont wanna head to the bush, Overwaitea totally has your back on this one. All different sizes too. Dont feel bad that you arnt in the bush, someone has to put food on a families table by selling these.
Why do we have Christmas Trees anyway? In a small nutshell its a Pagan (nature, moon and sun worshipers) tradition, people put them up at winter solstice to honor nature. When Christians hijacked the "Christmas"date and converted the Pagans to Christianity, they kept the tree tradition to make the transition into Christianity easier. Most historians put the birth of Christ sometime in August according the stars they saw in the sky that night. Mistletoe is a pagan thing too, the berries literally symbolize a mans balls and mistletoe was hung to promote fertility, so I guess they thought the kisses would lead to a whole lot more. Merry Christmas!

Mid December Musings

New Years - Always a lame night
Christmas is 8 days away. WTF, Christmas is sooo sneaky. Here in Fernie it just isnt in our face so commercially the way it is piled into people in the city. But its certainly getting busy in town and people are out shopping. I just gotta say, December is only once a year, Im busy as hell and I miss bloggin a lot. We all just need to stay mindful this month and drink a ton of booze and we shall get by.

Christmas is on my mind but there is talk of New Years already. Here's the rundown:
Bryx at Bulldogs
Cona at the Pub
Brody at the Central
Some rumors swirling about The Royal
And DJ Friendly Fire at Picnic.

New Years has got to be the most annoying party time EVER. I mean there is the hype, theres the later-night at the bar which you gotta buy drinks for longer. And in Fernie its extra annoying cuz no one buys tickets to anything until the last minute, no one can get their shit together or commit to anything cuz they have to make sure a large enough group of cool party people are gonna be there. Then even IF you all can get tickets and get to a party, no one shows up to 11:30 and as soon at the toast is over everyone scatters looking for an epic house party, which can be a gamble.  I dunno, perhaps Im getting cynical, Ive been out drinking on New Years buying into all the hype since I was 14. Every year I say Im gonna sit this one out and I never do, because im a sucker, Im a scenester, and I love a good reason to dance party. and every year its really just another night out, I have a better time out for Bingo night at Bulldogs,...see my pic below...So New Years is really just a bust,  make sure you have looowwww expectations or else you gonna be dissapointed.

This year if I end up at Bulldogs I will not be shocked, but mildly annoyed that I made no other plan, I also just wanna sit this one out, but we both know thats not gonna happen. Take your pic or make plans, buy your tickets and have a good time. 2010 was the year of the Tiger, and Ill be damn it totally was a rather roaring year, as for myself, its truly been a wild ride. 2011 is the year of the Rabbit.
According to Chinese tradition, the Rabbit brings a year in which you can catch your breath and calm your nerves. It is a time for negotiation. Don't try to force issues, because if you do you will ultimately fail. To gain the greatest benefits from this time, focus on home, family, security, diplomacy, and your relationships with women and children. Make it a goal to create a safe, peaceful lifestyle, so you will be able to calmly deal with any problem that may arise.

For the record Im not really into the Chinese Zodiac, but I find is facinating and oddly correct most of the time.

Tuesday Night Bingo at Bulldogs is FULL ON BACK
As December slips by and my ass grows from all my mothers Christmas baking, Im reminisent of 2010. Im thinking of all the best news stories, but then I think, fuck news stories, Im sick of negative news, Im focusing on the things that made me smile the most. Ohhh remember the Olympics? Remember Shambhala?
Remember when The Chef came to Bulldogs? Remember ______ and _______!?!?!
I shall have my best of 2010 up soooonish.
Love ya Fernie. Later!!

Guess who got 97% on her International Sommelier Guilds wine exams, ......ME!

Today on my Christmas to-do list

Ahhhh, im gonna dig out the Fresh Prince Christmas episode today and watch it, remember when they take the ski holiday and they all get robbed? But they realize at the end that they dont need presents they all have eachother. Such a good message at the end, true meaning of Christmas to me really resonates in that episode for me.

Feather Mania

Whoooaaaaa The Feather Phenom is not letting up here in Fernie!!!

Feather earrings are getting outta control in Fernie, first last summer it started with a small faint guinea feather, and now they are reaching past armpits and died brigher then a pylon cone. What is happening??? Where are all these poor naked birds flying around, hopefully there are tanning it up in Palm Springs. The trend is insane! Women are on crazy pills, they are stopping at nothing to attract attention to their earlobes and neck and its working all too well!!!

...as i sit here im wearing these hehehehhhehehehe, its cool everyone is doing it.

Alicia and Rachel are making some mad mad cool cool ones and they are for sale at Freyja! Ding! Good Christmas Present idea! DING!

Tuesday

Update, the Fernie Xmas Album by the Fernie Yacht Club and friends debuts next Tuesday at Bingo, the whole album will be performed live. Shucks! Cant Wait!

Christmas Shopping

Fuck, its such a nightmare and its a nightmare because we all care about trying to get that perfect gift that the ones we love will actrually love and appriciate, but also it reflects how much we care in some fucked up way right. They say "its the thought that counts", which is true, but somehow that reallly gets lost in the mix of the hustle and bustle. Sometimes gifts are so shitty, its an insult to recieve them, cmon its true. Like the time my mom got a ceramic goose from the dollar store from her sister, then for her birthday she received the MATCHING one. Just insulting man. ....Anyway,  Just remember this holiday season that soap and candles should be a last resort and when in doubt go with gift certs and wine. The holiday season is here, as someone in retail sales its really a mental time, but I embaced the crazyness a long time ago when I was working Boxing Day at Bootlegger at age 14. I have learned that holiday crazyness earns you holiday goodness like:
-drinking pretty much at any time of the day
-spending money and not feeling bad
-having a cigar, why not
-indulging in high fat foods and not caring either
-wearing fancy clothes for whatever reason
-baking stuff and sharing it
-drinking, did i say that already?
-catching up with people that you really do care about

See, times can be good, keep it simple and enjoy yourself, this season only happens once a year, life is too short to not sit back with a 12 yr scotch by a warm fire and bunny slippers. and if anyone pisses you off, quickly brush it off and move on and drink another glass of  fine wine.Thats my best advice!! ahahahahah

Dont forget you can do a niffty litttle scavenger hunt organized by the Fernie Chamber, once completed you can earn discounts at local shops, like Freyja for example. How neeat eh. Kinda?
Look for more info on the posters around town.

Murder At Snow Valley

No no, not for real, its the brainchild of local theatre star Sage McBride and friends. A dinner theatre and murder mystery that involves ski sweaters and food by Blue Toque. $50 a ticket, proceeds go towards local daycare. Tickets avail for this Thursday night and this Friday night. Im heading there friday nighter! Booom! Where your "best" ski sweater!

Martini Mondays At Picnic

New This Weinter! Martini Mondays at Picnic with Dj Friendly Fire. Spiffy!!!

Im also really digging the New Years Plan for Picnic, Dj Friendly Fire will be hosting that as well, noooiiiice.
See the full page ad in the Fix this month.

Fernie Christmas Album Out Soon

As I speak the last couple tracks are being laid on what has probabley the most hype Fernie has EVER seen. The Fernie Yacht Club, DJ PJ, Kyle Hudon and Curtis Dekker have been working diligently on a soon-to-be runaway timeless classic album. Stay tuned for Release Party Details. Happy Christmas Everyone!

GALA SUCCESS, Money Raised and People Were Merry

Hands down one of the BEST gala's by Lindsay and I. I mean, people were really into it, they all showed up in high spirits and prepared for a great night. An awesome mix of people in the community all mingling and dancing and schmoozing, this was everyone's gala! Its so simple really, we didnt have a huge budget, but we had great buzz and that made the night a huge success. So far we are at about $7400, still counting the cash coming in. Thank you to all that attended, thank you to all that sponsored and supported this night. Im so so so cheesy and cliche, but hell, we live in one helluva cool little town yo.
Thanks again for helping us raise this money for the Salvation Army!

Im a sucker for anything local, so when I recieved a bottle of the Columbia Vineyards Merlot Private Reserve as a gift, I was open minded, even tho the labelling made it look like a home brew jobbie. Anyway, last night the bottle was accidentley chilled a bit too long in my truck. When I opened it and served it later, it was fairly chilled. BY GEORGE! It was fannnnntastic!! Juicy, Fruity, Low Acidity High Alchohol, grape juice! Cherries and Black Fruits and Jams and Spice! Just fucking lovely. Pick up a bottle and through in the fridge till ya ready to have. (Red Wine chilled is actrually a very accurate way to enjoy by professional standard)

Uggg.

The Ant-HST referendum will cost the province 30.1 million dollars. If is passes and continues, what a fucking waste of money, if it wins and we lose the HST back to PST, we look like fucking idiots to competing provinces of Alberta and Ontario, wont they be smiling all the way to bank while we lose business and opportunity to them.

fuuuuuuuck what a messsss. I hope it stays to be honest, Im already over it. But wow, thanks mostly-ill-informed petition signers, thanks for the referendum!  I bet not even HALF of the people that signed the petition go out and actrually vote on this thing. BET YOU!

Harvesting Fernie

new Fernie blog alert!
http://harvestingfernie.blogspot.com/

busy lady

Sorry for slacking on the posts, been crazy busy I swear! Im running around getting Freyja stocked, locked and ready to roll for the Christmas and ski season and getting the Gold Gala up and running. Ive been working on the new Fernie Music Festival committee, which Im stoked about. Plus, Im driving to Calgary once a week to complete my level one in the International Sommelier Guild's Sommelier program. Then I took a business financial managment course put on by FABDA, which was over-the-top  fabulous! I went to a naturopath doctor and learned all kinds of new things about me, Ive joined Sue Bawden meditation classes and life coach program and on top of all the new exciting things happening in my life Ive some serious highs and lows with my personal life. Basically, Im busy.

Life is crazy and life goes by fast. Gotta stop and smell the...fresh snow and keep yourself in the moment and not in the past or worried about hte future. Carpe Diem my people! And for some reason the saying "its always darkest before the dawn" keeps popping in my head this week, maybe one of you out there had to read that today... Peace

LOCO

This SNOW IS FUCKI|NG CRAZY!

Give it a good review and get back to me

So I see the new Drinking and Driving laws are taking some major heat from the restuarant industry, Nice to see that they are mulling over having a review.  I think that they should be looking in to this. Money is being lost people! And at the end of the day this new alcohol limit is not going to stop the drunk drivers, people who choose to drink and drive are still gonna do it.. AND THEY ARE! What they need to do is develop is a fresh idea to tackle repeat offenders and the actual bad guys that are ruining it for the good people of this province.

I do feel its rediculous and I really do feel sorry for the restos and bars who have MANY law abiding customers that are spending less money. And I feel sorry for ME! I want to order a nice bottle of wine at the restaurant with dinner and make good choices, but now Im scared, and Im confused what to do so instead Im ordering house wine and not finishing it. FUCK.

Whats next? Prohibition, oh cuz that really worked out. If this shit keeps up Im moving to Europe, or at least to a place that gets it, and gets me!

On top of these new rules and the new Fun Police ByLaw that the City of Fernie is trying to pass, Im feeling dejected, Im feeling like Im going to hell, I feel like Im living in the 50s and my greaser boyfriend is making my dad sweat, I feel like insecure chrurch ladies everywhere are rejoicing, all of this makes me feel like rebelling EVEN MORE!! ANARCHY!!

Cool

Boardstiff is brining back their sweet video contest...

46 Days

Alright Im sure the real  hippees in town are gonna give me some heat for this but, Im just so full of joy, I have to share. I go to Cranbrook to visit my dentist, had a little cleaning, had no cavities! I was feeling good, saucy if you will. So I decided to treat myself to a lil soy latte from Starbucks.
I walk in and all the Christmas presents and decos are out. Im like "YAAAAAY".
Why? Because Im sick in the head. hahahahaha
I love Christmas retail. I love it!!!!
All the little gift packs, all the shiny things, the Christmas to-go cups! AAhh my heart was racing! What can I buy and for whom? Can I wrap them? Christmas Christmas, shopping shopping shopping!!!! YAAAAAAY!
I cant help it, I love it. I love the hustle and bustle and snacks and treats and booze and presents and buzz and smiles and crazyness and food and wine and liqueurs!!!
Family stuff is okay I guess, but really Ijust  like the retail and the food parts.
No I didnt shop, I just got my latte and smiled, The As Good As Gold Gala is 25 days away and Christmas is 46 days away! Bring on the Baileys, Bring on the Ovaltine Mint Sticks, bring on the snow, bring on the love people!!
