Town Bits and Bites

Three things that made me happy this week.

1. There is cheese shop opening right beside Odessy Clothing late November. Called Le Grande Fromage, ahhh love it and its on my way home from work, hell its close enough for coffee cheese breaks.

2. Oysters are back at the Picnic, $2 a oyster on Thursdays! Wellllllll then!

3. Non-Stop apparently have been booking waaaaaay less long stay rich kids and booking waaay more short term young professionals. What does that mean for town? young professionals who are only statying for 10 days will tend to venture out to restaurants and stores and actrually spend money. They are slightly older and more mature appartently when it comes to bar scene schnanagens as well.

hope this helps your week like it did mine. Happy Indian Summer!!!

Aries Full Moon Tonight

This Full Moon is especially potent. This time of the year is normally the point at which we harvest - and the symbolism of a Full Moon is the same - a time of fruition in the monthly lunar cycle.
This then is a time of endings and beginnings. The Aries Moon urges us to break free from restrictions, seek new emotional landscapes - to dare again and find the path that leads to our own autonomy - freedom.

Full moons signify the completion, culmination of what may have been initiated during the previous new moon in Virgo which highlighted communication, analyzing situations prior to making judgements or taking action, being practical and encouraged us to be of service to service. This Full Moon in Aries highlights the balance between the self (who I am) and the shared self (who I am in a relationship); the potential of our individual selves and our partnerships; and the consideration of another's needs as they pertain to our own basic needs.

Coupled with Saturn also transiting the partnerships sign of Libra, where he's whipping us all into shape with lessons in love, relationships, commitments, partnerships, equality and objectivity, this full moon touches upon our relationships and perhaps, finally making the long overdue necessary changes. Time to grow up -- whether it's taking things to the next level of commitment; learning to accommodate, compromise, communicate; standing up for one's self; or however this full moon may play out in your life.

This is the first of two full moons occurring in Aries this year, giving this lesson on learning to balance the self and its needs/wants within relationships -- may they be intimate, platonic, familial or business. Next month's full moon in Aries will be on October 30.

I Think We're Alone Now

Okay, my family can attest to the fact that when I was 6 or 7 I was completely obsessed with Tiffany. I mean, really, who wasnt!?
I had a giant lifestyle Tiffany door poster, I knew all the words to every song in which I performed concerts in the musty basements for all my stuffed animals and my little sister. I LOVED Tiffany. But, I dont think I loved her as much as these guys. Ya, awkward new documentary made about Tiffany's "Super Fans" - UNREAL!

A year away still

This just made me happy...

Autumn Equinox

Ahhhhhhh, big sigh of relief, hockey is back on!
Last night the sound of game filled my house, everything seemed back to normal.
HAPPY AUTUMN EQUINOX!!!!

Water Quality Advisory

I am a complete new-junkie, nooo question about it, i picked up the habit when I spent 4 years working in a television newsroom. I have absolutely not seen ANYTHING from the city about this current "Poor Quailty - Boil Water Advisory".
It seems to me that the city of Fernie must only warn residents about the quality of water by ancient ways of communicating. Their ancient ways of communicating include visiting ACTUAL websites! Yes they expect us to go to fernie.ca and scroll to the bottom and look at the water quailty index. I bet they "fax" out shit too, ahahahha jeeezzz. No Fernie, you will not get a Facebook status update or a Twitter Tweet or a posting on Ourfernie/Local news sites.

So write this down or bookmark it residents, www.fernie.ca and scroll to the bottom for the water quailty index. If its a "POOR" everyone should boil, If its a "Fair" people should be careful, and those with weakend immune systems should boil. Last night it was poor, today its fair. If its raining a lot or you, I dunno, get a bad vibe??? then go check the index.

Fail

In case you were wondering... yes that meat dress, meat purse and meat booties were made of real meat...

The Globe and Mail:
Mr. Fernandez, an L.A.-based artist, told MTV Style that he’d procured 50 pounds of beef – or what he called matambre, a South American roast – from his family butcher “in the valley.”

Construction took two days and the dress was refrigerated; Mr. Fernandez later transported it in a cooler – “its own little coffin.” The final product weighed 40 pounds and sat atop a corset. “Gaga said it smelled good,” he said.

and this meat dress didnt even shock me, my WTF momment of the MTV Awards was Will.i.Am painted black in his Gaga-pop-art inspired look. Jesus man, stick to what works and leave the statment looks to Gaga. Somwhere Jay-Z is shaking his head.
You let Gaga's offensive dress off easy when everyone started calling you a racist, this is just fucking hilarious. FAIL

British teen who wrote “abusive” email to Obama banned from U.S. for life

Seventeen-year-old Luke Angel has learned the hard way that nothing good comes of firing off an expletive-filled email while soused. The British teenager has been banned for life from entering the United States after he sent the White House a curse-laden email directed at President Obama. A police spokesperson told a British newspaper that the note was “full of abusive and threatening language.” Officers visited Angel at his home in Bedfordshire, England, during which time the teen admitted to sending the e-mail, although he couldn’t remember what he wrote. “I was drunk,” he told The Sun. “But I think I called Barack Obama a pr—. It was silly—the sort of thing you do when you’re a teenager and have had a few.” The severity of the punishment has yet to dawn on Angel. “I don’t really care,” he said, “but my parents aren’t very happy about it.”

What Would You Say?

Two Ladies walk into a quaint little fashion boutique. Both have children, one lady has a 3 year old boy and the other lady has a 6 month old on her hip. After several minutes of casualy looking over the merchandise the mother of the 6 month old asks the sales clerk "would you mind if I changed my baby's diaper on your couch". The couch a green velvet store centerpiece in the middle of the store.
The sales clerk, flabergasted says "well uhhhh, ummm".
"Is that a problem?????", demands the out-of-town lady.
"Well we dont have a public washroom, there is one across the street", respnds the clerk.
"What?? I cant change my diaper in your store????", the two women visually pissed off gather their items in a hurry and storm out.

.....In what mind did those women think changing a kids shitty diaper in the middle of a boutique would be appropriate?????? Would they have asked to do this in the Gap?

Moms whip out a teet whenever and where ever these days regardless of what others think to breastfeed, and thats politically correct, but now we have to deal with the smell of shit to accomodate motherhood now too?????? What the hell?????

What would you have done with your child???? What would you have said to the mother???

I googled this and the article I found was when Kim Kardashian tweeted about a woman in a restaurant pulling an impromtu diaper change right there in the resto. It sparked a media whirlwind - read here

Screwed

If you go to America and see the prices of wine, you will be highly tempted to buy some. But it is not worth it to buy any booze unless you've been in US for longer then 48 hours. I REPEAT, Not WORTH IT.
My $6.99 Ravenswood turned out to be $20 with duty, same price in the BC Liqour Store. Argh!

I didnt go.

I worked all weekend, how was the Derby?

No Food For You - Come Back Next Season

Trust me, I was waaaay more mad then I am now, but because my vintage 2004 laptop takes 2 hours to start up, Ive had some time to cool off.

But still, WHAT... THE.... FUCK!

Its the last long weekend of the summer, last big weekend to milk the tourism, a morning after derby...and you cant get breakfast in Fernie.

WE drove to Blue Toque - Closed, Old E - Closed, Red Tree - Closed, Smittys - over hour wait, Park Place - Only one server for full resto, hour wait for food at least, Mugshots - not one empty table, massive lineup, Tim Hortons - 15 car lineup.

HUH?????

Im sorry but with all the Calgarians and Tourists and Locals, places closed for business on the Holiday Monday?????

We cry and cry that our dry seasons are soooo dead and yada yada yada, but you choose to not make money this past Monday????

Not only are all these tourists leaving with THIS as their final impression of Fernie, but dont fucking cry when its dead this fall and you have no customers. Its the nature of the beast of this town you gotta make your money when you can.
What a lovely little "fuck you" that was to everyone visting our town for the weekend. "Hey thanks for choosing us and not the USA or Banff or Whatever - thanks for spending your cash here and all , but ya you gotta wait an hour for a coffee to hit the road, oh and ya, no breakfast for you either, Sweet thanks see you next time you're back!!"

You gotta think, maybe they closed cuz its never really busy for them and they cant afford staff all summer for just a handful of busy weekends. What a stupid vicious cycle this town is in. We want tourism, but we dont have enough to operate properly so -now we just have this half-assed tourism.

PFFFFFFFFT.

what a shitty holiday Monday morning.

But honestly after watching all these fucking retarded iphone4 commericials that promote the video telephone...I really dont feel like supporting a compnay that makes me vomit in my living room when I see and hear the "remember that thing we've been working on??" or that fugly face of the boyfriend checking out his girlfriends butch new haircut. Fuuuuuucking hell, soooooo LAME. I hate these commericials. They are WAAAAY worse then those "Windows 7 and it was my idea" commericials. Out of complete spite Im thinking of going PC. Fuck u apple and your blow-chunks cheeesey commericials.

Derbs'

Wow, white people go fucking ape shit for this derby shit. Again Im hearing some mad talk about how wasted and fucked up people are going to be. Fair enough, the weather is shit, honestly the whole summer was shit and you work hard for the money so go fuckin at'er. In the spirit of derby dont forget to remember why you are there, take a momment, pause or keep stumbling if you are gonna fall over, look around through your one eye and take and big whiff of the fumes. Remember, this is a special special day in Fernie, friends and family coming together and expressing ourselves in what we truely love and do best apparently. Rock On.

please be safe and know your limits - sorry I just have to say it for the sake of the many times I have seen familiar faces at the derby buck naked in the bleachers winging abround "helicopters", or passed out in ditches, or starting stupid fights, or ...... ya you get the picture.

R.I.P RodO

One of the only true teachers I ever met. One or maybe the only teacher I ever had that had a massive influence on me and helped guide me to who and what I am today. This was very hard to hear this news, but I am happy he was in all of our lives and is now at peace. He's crusing on his bike down the highway now free as a bird.

Cancer sucks.

His celebration of life will be held next Saturday, August 28th at the Idlewild Park amphitheatre in Cranbrook at 3 p.m.

Thieves

Bulldogs got cleaned out this weekend. Stolen purses, wallets, jacket and iphone4s.

Basically its a pack of stetchy looking kids. Im not even mad, I know karma will take care of them and if they are out stealing ladies purses, I mean, cmon, I understand their lives must be like, realllly sad and lame.

My purse was in the mix of stolen shit. Funny thing is, there was no money in my bag or wallet. My sony camera was in there, but unless they go buy really expensive specialized sony cords, the battery and charger they cant use it. Fucking iiiiidiots.

Ladies and Gents, keep your shit tight, or dont brings anything at all, or fanny packs!!!!

Shout out to the staff and Charlie at Bulldogs for getting on the chase right away and really giving a shit. Thanks guys! and Thanks to Dj Friendly Fire for leaving the party to comb the streets for a tossed bag. You guys are why I will be there this Wednesday with a huge posse of good people dancing it up hard for The Rub.

PS. Thats the pic of my camera, its in a matching brown leather case, $200 reward.

Full Moon

Full Moon is approaching. Will be full Tuesday Aug 24th. Shit is already startin to feel weird. This is also a good time to meditate on things you are asking for.

On Sale

Hope I never need Stars, but its totally nice to know they are there just in case. Calenders are now on sale. $30! and it comes with cute bandaids. Very good idea to support this, jus saying.

Jusss right

There once was a fabulously dressed lady that stumbled upon a counter of 3 beers all decked out in lime flavouring decals.
This peaked her curiousity and suddenly she felt how incredibly thristy she was. The thrist overcame her. But these wernt her beers. "Fuck it", she thought.
The first one (Bud Light Lime) was toooo limey. She sipped it slow and her mouth curled up. She threw it on the ground.
The second one, she sipped carefully, trying to detect a hint of lime as she swished it around her pallete. But this beer (Big Rock Lime) had near to no lime flavour. She threw it out the window.
Feeling fusterated and beaten up, she then picked up the third beer. "Ohh please just beee right" her thoughts raced. A small sip turned into a ginormous gulp. This beer (Miller Chill) was jusssssss the right amount of lime.
She went on to finish the beer with glorious orgasmic thrills. As she was setting the empty bottle politely back on the counter she heard the door slam. "OH fuck!!" she thought.
She dashed in her fashionable glam rock outfit for the back door. She opened the door to run, but was faced with the screen door. She musta been a bit buzzed as she slammed her face into the screen. "OWWW" she said aloud.
Then a voice came from behind!!!
"Jesus WTF are you doing?"
Ohhhh it was only her sister, returning from the beer store with a case of Miller Chill!!

(Happy Ending music here.....)

BEAR IN AREA, pffftt

You know what I dont understand...

I enter the Annex park trail from the Canadian Tire side, I run with headphones on all the way along the river till I am exiting off the trail to where it forks with the dyke trail. When I entered on the other side there were no signs, but when I exited I realized there were two signs "BEAR IN AREA". Ohhhh thats why I never passed anyone on the trail. Ahhhh WTF!! Was I just in the "Bear Area". Why didnt you tell me on the other side before I ran the whole damn thing. Every summer this boggles my mind! hahahah its funny, until I one day I come up on a bear and realize, oohhhh the sign said this might happen, but I, unfortunately came from the other side where there was no warning.

I get out of the Annex park, thankful I wasnt eaten. Then I run up to Rip and Richards, and fuck, there's another "BEAR IN AREA" sign. So Im like, "eff? Im not in the clear yet??"

Then I run under the highway and come out by the shaded think trail along the quattrain apartments. And what do I see.....

2 ...

HUGE...

...Doods carrying a big DeWALT ghetto blaster on their shoulders blasting a Taylor Swift/Miranda Lambert song drinking some beers.

....Now that was frigthning!

WTF? hahhah oh the sights you see in Fernie sometimes.

Aug 20th is....

Nope this isnt a shot from 8am at Shambhala, its Kesha performing on the Today Show downtown NYC. Classy broad!

Summer Ravin

Summer isnt over party people.... the post shamby dancing is red hot!! OW OW I think it was all becauase of Friendly Fire's insane skills last Friday at Bulldogs to spark the wave of heat, but thats just my professional opinion.

This Saturday, Jon from Fort Knox Fucking Five will be doing his best to follow Friendly Fire. Very spicy! I think Ill wear something funky.

Then next Wednesday: Smalltown DJs (hand claps) and The Rub from Brooklyn (stadium cheers) OWWWWW Fuck me sideways! Cant wait!!!! Rub has never been here before, Freyja has been importing their cds for like 3 years and selling them at huge markup cuz that shit was gold. They have always been near and dear to Schoolyard, Im like, PUMPED!!! This should bring out an impressive pussy posse as well. Goodtimes all around indeed!! I think Ill wear something breathable and stretchy as Im sure many lunges and totally insame Mark Steele dance moves will happening all over the fucking place.

Listen and get familiar with The Rub on the Brooklyn radio station HERE http://brooklynradio.net/

Current State of Rock'n'Roll

You know what, I always really enjoy this dood's radio show, for all you rockers out there, here's a wealth of rock info and bullshit. Loves it! www.eddietrunk.com
Last time I tuned in on sat' radio, Eddie was talking and contemplating about the future of stadium rock concerts. He was looking around at the merch booths for ACDC and Aerosmith and the Stones and thinking, "fuck, they are selling almost the exact same shit as they did back in 70s, so like, when these bands actrully die off...what super bands are gonna replace em, like we talking SUPERBANDS, whos the next? ....Metallica?? Who else?? And who of these current super bands just arnt gettin' it done anymore, but they have such a super brand that they just keep touring and for why??? Do they realllllly need the money, how many islands and yachts do they need???"

So then I got thinking... if rock bands are something that some individuals identify themselves with, what will the future look like with the age of MySpace and YouTube and all the wealth of new music out there so easily accessible. The superbands became superbands because back in the day, all people had was radio, and they listened to basically what they had too as dictated to from the radio station and record companies. So these bands created armies of fans and distinctive generations. Can new bands really create armies? Well, I guess there is Justin Beiber's story. Will 30 years from now people rock up to a Bieber show and buy a vintage Bieber tee? I wonder, eh? Completely facinating. Cuz I bought a vintage Aerosmith tee, partly becuase I was identifing with the 1970s, I fucking love that time for music, and it was almost as if I wear that tee as an homage to that time in history as well as for the love of the band, you know what Im saying??? It not JUST about the music, it was the whole experience of Aerosmith in the 70s that Im stoked on.

Eddie's show is really interesting for me, maybe not for you, but I find this comtemplation and deep thought about the current state of rock n roll extremely relevant and riveting.

www.eddietrunk.com

Ps. Ignore this dudes gay face. Clearly he has a face for radio.

PSS. METAL HAIR BAND "Skull Fist" TONIGHT AT BULLDOGS!!! Avec Burger and Beer Night!

Guilt Trip

whoa. whoa. whooooooa.

K, just read the article on "guilt" in the new September ELLE Canada. So its basically talking about some neuro researcher and his findings about us wanting luxery goods, but feeling guilty that we think we need them to be happy, even tho we can afford them we dont want to want them - really facinating shit - I tried to find it online for y'all but I cant.
Anyway....
It goes on to talk about all the guilt we feel on a regular basis and how guilt is basically the most powerful emotion we have to motivate our actions. WHOOOOAAA. This just kinda rocked my world. I think I need more time to meditate on this....brb

New Hot Doc

So to follow up on the Joaquin Phoenix rap career, as it completely had my attention. Looks like Casey Afflex is debuting a controversial documentary about the whole fucking insane experience of Joaquin trying is hand at a hip hop career.
Its going to debut at the Toronto Film Fest. Fuckballs, I want to watch it and cringe and laugh, I just do because I am soooo fucking curious about this whole mess.
A Look Back at when the weird started....

Summer Countdown

I was just thinking about all the summer goals I had at the beginning of summer, the checklists in my mind of things I wanted to accomplish so I can fairly say I didnt piss the summer away. I really have done a dilligent job of fitting in my quotas of bbqs, music, nature and friends. This is now the part of the blog in which I remind you, unfortunately, that time is ticking. If there is some outstanding summer goals that you have not crossed off the summer to-do list, then you really oughtta get on that. Is there a hike you wanted to do? Roadie? Visit old friend? whatever it is, better huuurrrryyy.

New Place

Have you drven past the old tire shop on 4th by the tracks? Shits really looking all good and profess over there, gonna be a used sports shop I see. Gearhub. I even like the name. No word on when its opening up, I bet they are gonna kill it. I bet they are gonna get really sick of cheap people thinking their CRAP is worth way more then it is too. But hey, retail is always a nightmare! Welcome to downtown Gearhub!

The Flannel Feenom

After all these years of shaking my head and trying to look past the icky impression it leaves on me... I still cant get over how some girls and grown women leave the house for a day on the town in their flannel pajama pants. Im not talking about sweats okay, just this recent phenom of public outings in flannel pjs.

Everytime I see a fat ass sluging down the street or taking up space on a mall bench in flannel pants avec skating penguins or ballerina teddy bears I cant help but think bad thoughts. Im totally going there, Im just saying it. These people get a big floppy homemade concert sign "FAIL!"

Your appearance does speak for something. Its just does. Im not expecting everyone to be a fashionista or spend copious ammounts of cash on clothes, this is absolutely not what im saying. Im saying that your apperance is representitive of who and what you are. Just like how people in certain cliques like to dress to distiguish themselves in society of who they are and what they are about, like skaters, or guidos or rich babes or sporty dudes. We all dress to express.
These woman are basically saying "Im too lazy". This flannel feenom is like wearing a sign on your chest that says, "Im lazy and all the welfare sterotypes you are thinking right now are most likey true about me", or "Im a hoarder" or "I hate myself and I dont want to do anything about it". This expression statement is speaking volumes of thier lives.

People like to dress themselves as an expression of who they are, and thats why im trying to wrap my head around this flannel feenom. These women must know the statement this carries, so why do it? Do they really not care at all and this is a fuck you? Or are you so lazy that you are not embarressed of your fail? I would be embarressed if I was this lazy, I'd try and hide it from others in society. But hey this is just my opinion, Im trying to understand theirs... and Im tyring to understand why a parent would allow thier teens to dress and leave the house in this way, way to set them up for real life after high school!
