Fernie Council gave three readings to an amendment Monday night, adding graffiti to the 'Unsightly Premises Bylaw'.
The bylaw would give the City the ability to fine people caught committing graffiti vandalism.
Mayor Cindy Corrigan says the amendment also means businesses would be responsible for cleaning up graffiti on their property.
Anyone caught doing graffiti can be fined a minimum of one thousand dollars.
Ahhhh, I know graff is illegal and most of it is shit, but I feel like Im in the movie Footloose. As someone who LOVES graffiti I wish that Fernie was more amped to provide spaces and allow good art, like murals on city buildings for example.
Last year Freyja held an art show that allowed local graff artists a venue to display their art. I guess we are gonna have to do the same thing this year.
